William Horth and Mary Randle        Top of the page

William was probably born around about the turn of the Century c1700 and was probably born in or near Caister-on-Sea, Norfolk. He married Mary RANDEL on 6 April 1724 at Caister. William and Mary had five children: George, Robert, George, Mary and Elizabeth. William was buried at Caister on 25 June 1757 and Mary on 11 March 1762.

George Horth and Mary Minns        Top of the page

George was baptised at Caister on 6 February 1731. He was the son of William HORTH and Mary RANDLE. George married Mary MINNS at Mautby on 2 September 1765. George and Mary had seven children :James, Mary, Elizabeth, William, Ann, Charles and Susan. Mary was buried at Caister on 26 March 1797 and James was buried there on 9 April 1812.

James Horth and Mary Cope        Top of the page

James was baptised at Caister on 11 October 1767. He was the son of George HORTH and Mary MINNS. On 9 November 1790 he married Mary COPE at Caister. James and Mary had three children: James, George and Mary Anne .Mary was buried at Caister on 13 October 1809 and James on 28 May 1820.

 

James Horth and Ellinor Durrant        Top of the page

James was baptised at Caister on 3 November 1793, the son of James HORTH and Mary COPE. On 11 November 1814 James married Ellinor DURRANT in the Parish Church at Lound. James and Ellinor had nine children: Elizabeth, Mary Ann, James, Phoebe, William, Hannah, Christmas, Lydia and George. James and Ellinor are not listed together in the 1841 census James is possibly living in West Road (West End) and working as an agricultural labourer. Ellinor is living in West Road with Christmas, Lydia and George. They are together in 1851 and their address is given as West Road, Caister and James’ occupation as a farmer’s labourer. Ellinor died in 1852 and James in 1859.

Mary Ann HORTH        Top of the page

Mary Annwas born on 12 August 1815 at Lound, Suffolk and was baptised there the following day. She was the daughter of James HORTH and Ellinor DURRANT. On 30 March 1841 Mary Ann married Samuel BALLS at the Parish Church of St Nicholas at Great Yarmouth, Norfolk. In the census of that year they are living at Ferry Boat Row, Great Yarmouth and Samuel is working as a labourer. Mary Ann already had one child at the time of her marriage to Samuel Balls, the baby girl had been born on 31 October and was baptised at Great Yarmouth on 23 November 1840 as Mary Ann HORTH. After Mary and Samuel were married the child took the name of Mary Ann Horth BALLS and is is extremely likely that Samuel was her natural father. Mary and Samuel had another eight children: Charlotte, Samuel, James. John, Harriet, Judith and Sarah. Sometime between 1841 and 1851 Samuel went to work at Frog Castle Estate, West End, Caister and worked there as a gardener/market gardener for the rest of his life. Mary died in 1883 and is buried at Caister (Section 17 Grave 2) Samuel was interred with her on 8 March 1905.
