William Derek BISHOP, known as Derek, was born in Deeping St Nicholas in 1930. He was the only son of William E. BISHOP and Georgina Joan SMITH. In 1950 Derek married Irene E. JARMAN.

The BISHOP family tree has been traced back to John BISHOP who was born about 1780, probably in or near Titchmarsh, Northamptonshire. John married Elizabeth and there are 5 known children: George, John, Thomas, William and Richard. .In 1841 John and Elizabeth are living in the High street, Titchmarsh along with their son Richard aged 25 and servant Mary OWENS aged 15. John's occupation is recorded as butcher. John died on the 15 May and was buried on 18 May 1848 at Titchmarsh. Elizabeth died on 28 June 1870 aged 95 years.

Thomas Bishop was born about 1807 at Titchmarsh, Northamptonshire. He was the fourth son of John BISHOP and Elizabeth NIXON. He married Susannah RICHARDS at Ringstead, Northamptonshire on 3 May , they had 11 children; Robert(1833-1860), Elizabeth (1835-1901), Lot Richard (1836-1859, John (1837-), Richard(1839-1855), Sarah Ann (1842-1842), Sarah Ann (1843-), George (1845-1924), William (1848-), James (abt 1849-) and Catherine (1850-). In 1841 Thomas is a butcher, living with Susannah and 5 children at Long End Great Gidding near Oundle. In 1851 Thomas and Susannah are living at Titchmarsh with 8 of their children. Thomas is a butcher employing one man, George T NIXON, a journeyman butcher who is living with them along with a house servant, Susan EAST. In 1861 the address is given as High Street Titchmarsh, near the Wheatsheaf pub. Thomas is still a butcher and living with them is their daughter Sarah A, their son George, a cordwainer and William, James and Catherine who are still at school. Still living in the High Street Thomas is now recorded as a butcher and a publican. Catherine is still living at home and working as a bar maid, also living with them is Elizabeth, their daughter-in-law (wife of William) and grandaughter Florence Emily just 5 months old. Thomas was buried at St Mary the Virgin, Titchmarsh on the 3 August 1879, Susannah was buried there one month later on the 8 September 1879.

James Bishop was born about 1849 at Great Gidding, near Oundle, Huntingdonshire the son of Thomas BISHOP and Susannah RICHARDS. By 1851 he has moved with his family to the High street Titchmarsh, Northamptonshire and is still there with them in 1861. In 1869 James married Adah GARTON. They are living at Church Street, Titchmarsh where James is working as a butcher and beer retailer. They have William GEARY a widower, annuitant living with them. James and Adah have moved to 11 Back Street, Titchmarsh, James is a butcher and they have one son, Ralph aged 8. In 1884 James narrowly escaped death when he fell headlong into a deep well but was luckily rescued by neighbours In 1891 James is a prisoner at HMP Upper Mount Northampton. He was sentenced to six months hard labour for embezzlement in January 1891. Ada is living at back Street with son William aged 8. Ralph had died on 7 November 1883 and is buried at Titchmarsh..In 1901 James and Ada are living on their own, still at Church Street and working as a butcher and slaughterhouseman. They then move to North Street and in 1911 James is recorded as a farm labourer, they have been married for 40 years and had 2 children but only William is still living. No address is entered on 1921 census but at 70 years and 4 months old James is still working. He is employed by James Jellis as a farm labourer. Ada is 70. James died on 8 April 1926 was buried at Titchmarsh on the 12 April. Ada was also buried there on 20 January 1934.

William Henry BISHOP was born in Titchmarsh, Northamtonshire on 26 May 1881. He was the son of James BISHOP and Adah GARTON. In 1891 he is living at Back Street, Titchmarsh with his mother, at this time his father was in prison at Northampton. At an early age William Henry travelled from Northamtonshire to Deeping St Nicholas, Lincolnshire. In 1910 he is a boarder at the home of James and Rebecca NORTH on the Main Road DSN. His occupation is recorded as Wheelwright's improver.In 1902 he married Ada Mary Lane. They had eight children; Cecil Henry (1902-1971), Lilias Ada (1905-1996), James Ralph (1908-1970), Gladys Mary (1911-1911), Margaret Ellen (1913-1992), William Edward (1913-1996), Linda (1918-2009) and May (1918-). By 1911 he was a master carpenter and had his own business in Deeping St Nicholas, employing one man. The family were living at Plough Row but only Cecil Henry is recorded there with them. Albert BURTON is boarding there he is 16 and a carpenter's apprentice. In May 1912 William and Ada were able to prevent a neighbour from committing suicide thanks to Ada's quick thinking. Their family is complete by 1921 and they are all living together in Deeping St Nicholas although no house name is given. William Henry is a carpenter and wheelwright working from home and he is an employer. Cecil Henry's occupation is given as carpenter and Lilias Ada is helping with household duties, the other children are all at school. William Henry was a fine carpenter gaining prizes for his carts at local agricultural shows in 1932. Twins, Edward and Margaret were congratulated on their Coming-of-Age in 1934 and twins May and Linda in 1939. In 1936 son James Ralph is fined for speeding. In 1937 William Henry is advertising and displaying his skills at the Peterborough Show. The address, in 1939 is given as Orchard House Main Road, DSN. William is recorded as a wheelwright and builder and also a special constable section leader. Ada is recorded as an unpaid housewife. May is a clerk, assisting father. Linda is a hairdresser and the entry has been amended to show a married name of BARTON. Frances L NAYLOR (later Hodson) is working there as a maid. Ada was buried at Deeping St Nicholas on 30 April 1956 and William was buried on 3 February 1975.

Cecil Henry Bishop was born at Deeping St Nicholas on 21 December 1902 and baptised there on 1 February 1903. He was the eldest child and son of William Henry BISHOP and Ada Mary LANE. In 1911 he is living with his parents at Plough Row, DSN. He is still under his parents roof in 1921 but is now working as a carpenter. Cecil married Doris SMITH in 1926 probably at Deeping St James. Cecil and Doris have two children Doreen (1928-) and William Derek (1930-2009) usually known as Derek. Cecil runs up some fines in his time for various offences. The first, while he was still a young lad in 1919 was for riding a bike without lights. In July 1935 Cecil was fined for moving pigs without a licence. In November 1942 he was fined again this time for a motoring offence and in the same month another fine this time for a firearms offence. Doris died in 1960 and was buried at Deeping St Nicholas on 23 December that year. Cecil remarried in 1963 to Gladys Lilian DAVEY. Cecil died at DSN on 20 January 1971 and was buried there on 25 January. Gladys died in 1991.

William Derek Bishop, known as Derek was born 25 March 1930 at Deeping St Nicholas. He was the 2nd child and only son of Cecil Henry BISHOP and Doris SMITH. He married Irene Ethel JARMAN in 1950 and they had 4 daughters and a son. Irene died 11 July 1994 and is buried at Deeping St Nicholas. Derek died 26 May 2009 and is also buried at Deeping St Nicholas.
