• Obituary, 1931, Egloshayle, Cornwall. William was born in 1841, the son of William Brabyn, a saddler, and Maria Brabyn née Brinton. The family lived in Padstow. William's father was drowned on the Doom Bar outside Padstow in 1847, when William was six.
He married Eliza Ann Bate on 5 November 1862 in St Minver .
From 1861 (or earlier), William was a shipwright and and boat builder.
The 1901 census describes his occupation as "Living on own means"[14], but the 1914 Kelly's Directory for Wadebridge still lists William Henry Brabyn as 'boat builder'.
William served for three years on the Padstow lifeboat alongside his brother James, before moving to Egloshayle[21].William and Eliza were Wesleyan Methodists, having several of their children baptised in the Camelford circuit.
The masonic square and compasses symbols on their gravestone show that William was a Freemason (like his sons James and Stephen). He joined Molesworth Lodge, Wadebridge on 7th February 1898, having previously been a member of the Lodge of Fidelity No.230 in Plymouth (Provincial Grand Lodge of Devonshire). He became Worshipful Master of Molesworth Lodge on 4th February 1907.
William was buried with his wife,sons William and James, and next to his daughter Eliza Ann Goss.
