• Military Service, 1838. Attested 16/2/1838 (labourer) for 21st Regiment of Fusiliers in the County Edinburgh aged 19 1/2 years
Robert served 21 years and 150days of which 7 8/12 years in East Indies.
Released from service 28/7/1859 at Birr, Ireland
On discharge age 40yrs 11 mnth
was 5ft 8 ins, fair complexion, grey eyes, brown hairconduct very good, 4 good conduct badges. Once tried by battallion court martial for absence without leave in April 1840. Reduced to Private and 20 days jankers.
Corporal 27.1.1839 and 2.2.1858.

• Occupation, 1863, Cardiff, Glamorganshire. On Jane's marriage certificate his occupation is given as Bute Docks Policeman

• Residence, 1864, Cardiff, Glamorganshire. !864 - Baptism Albert Edward - Robert and Elizabeth are living at 48 Castle Road, Cardiff
"Plwca Lane, or Plwca Alai, (fn. 15), is the thoroughfare now called Castle Road, which extends from Longcross to Crwys Bychan. Plwca means dirty, wet, uncultivated land. Rushes originally grew hard by the lane, and mats were made of them, and sold in the town for domestic purposes. Alai means an alley. (fn. 16) Sixty-five years ago (1830) the habitations in Plwca Lane consisted of Roath Castle and six small cottages in two fields now the site of James' Square. (fn. 17)

• Burial, 1886, Cardiff, Glamorganshire. Robert buried St Andrew's headstone reads In loving memory of Robert Deans died 4/7/1886 of Gilbert.

Robert married Elizabeth PRICE, daughter of James PRICE and Jane (Janefer) BRADLICK, on 16 Dec 1839 in Frindsbury, Kent. (Elizabeth PRICE was born in 1821 in Devonport, Devon, baptised on 3 Dec 1821 in Stoke Damerel, Devon, died in Dec 1894 in St Andrew's Major, Cardiff and was buried in 1894 in St Andrew's Major, Cardiff.)
